The Keys To Knowing You're An Introvert

.

The King said I think he wants to say something... He leaned closer to listen.

To know thyself is to be free–the ultimate goal in life.

JUST BE TRUE. They laughed at me because I wore a suit to school. My mother said, "One day, son, those kids will be your employees."

It took me years to figure out what she meant–Be True–everyone is playing a game of let's pretend–a facade trying to fit into social groups and conforming to peer pressure.

Finally, I DISCOVERED & ACCEPTED who I am.

I'm an Introvert!

It explains a lot of why I do what I do and say what I say. It also explains why other people behave in a similar fashion–they are also introverts.

Over the years, the barriers between 'shy' and 'introvert' have been slowly broken down, and now people seem to think that the terms are interchangeable, but this isn't the case. Just because you are an introvert, that doesn't necessarily mean that you are shy.

In truth, the definition of shy tells us that it is a fear of people as a result of social anxiety; therefore, being an introvert is completely different.

Sometimes, introverts just need a little time away from the crowd fire to energize themselves, and this is absolutely fine.

For example, I like to talk to people but not for the sake of meaningless chatter or to avoid the uncomfortable feeling of silence in a room.

If you're like me and lived most of your life without knowing what lurks deep inside your personality, then here are some traits that most introverts have in common–just like astrology–where there are undeniable similarities between people born under the same zodiac sign.

Believe me. You want to read this no matter who you are.

Ride and Die

Introverts only let certain people into their circle.

Those people will be well looked after, and you'll treat them with love and respect.

You know the real meaning of, I Got You! I'm All Yours. You jump, I jump remember?

Whenever they need help, these are the people you would be willing to drop things for.

Ride and Die. That's you–a loyal friend forever.

You Screen Calls

For introverts, I think the Caller ID was made for us. I do, I think they made it just for you and me.

Thank goodness for caller ID!

You can screen your calls if you’re not in the mood to talk. That happens a lot. Now tell me that's not true–go ahead I'm waiting?

Okay, I didn't think so.

The decision not to answer isn't personal, and it doesn't mean you don't like the caller, it means that you don't want to be bothered, right?

You're focused on something else that's more important for the moment.

Hey, I don't expect the caller to understand–that's why I don't answer the damn phone. I never explain.

But when I do answer the call, it usually lasts for a while.

The other day, I received a call from a friend that I hadn't talked to in 20 years.

We talked for over an hour. Now if I had my druthers, I would prefer one long phone call once per month as opposed to several shorter conversations every day. I'm too busy to talk about nothing every day.

Instant Messages

One of an introvert's traits can be seen in their messaging habits. You're a deep thinker and not eager to reply to instant messages. They make you feel uncomfortable that if you rush, you'll say the wrong thing. So you normally wait until you can craft a perfect message.

Crowds are Draining

Rather than going to watch a concert, you would prefer to spend an evening with a friend one-on-one. When you do go out into crowds, you constantly think of relaxing at home. Crowds, for the most part, are fun for a few hours but can easily become draining. You usually leave before the end of a party or concert.

Social Media

It's bad you know. Real bad. She asked me why I just went on and told her.

To protect your privacy, reputation, personal brand, and bank account. You should be very careful what you post on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.

Most introverts don't like sharing their pictures, family, background or job information with strangers on the Internet.

I remember the days when I dreamed of having a lot of followers–matter of fact, I would like to thank my fans–yes, my fans. I want to thank them all. (386,000) Sometimes it seems to thank them is not enough.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

It's been a long road in the industry, but I'm not going to blow it by making my life an open book on Social Media.

The Internet in all its splendor is something you should not take lightly. So, all you folks who are not introverts–who are not conservative like us–get your act together and stop making your life an open book with strangers, you've never seen. Or you might be telling someone:

I have acquired over a very long career, skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you. I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will hunt you down, I will find you– And I will kill you. ~ Taken

It's bad you know. Real bad. She asked me why I just went on and told her.

Time will ring the bell.

Next trait, please.

Introverts Select Friends Wisely

People often say that introverts are anti-social, but this isn't the case–you just carefully select who to spend time with.

At times, you just want to spend time by yourself or with particular people. As mentioned, this doesn't mean that you dislike others, it just means that you are aware of who you enjoy spending your time with most.

If you are going to invest your time, you need there to be a return on that investment. When you do find someone you really connect and love to spend time with, these relationships become even more important.

The Creative Genius

Many studies show that a lot of inventions come from the minds of people who are introverts. You have a creative side that knows how to unlock the creative genius inside you.

There is a Limit to Group Outings

As I mentioned at the beginning, you don't have an anxiety issue, so you enjoy big nights out and huge parties.

However, it takes you a lot longer to regroup and want to go out again than your friends. While your friends are asking to go out again the next weekend, you are perfectly happy to wait a month or two.

Trust with Verification

You let very few people get close to you. Although many people know you, there is likely to be just a handful who know the real you.

You also, are a good judge of character and don't let your guard down very often. You're very skeptical when someone uses the words, 'Trust Me'. It's the cry-out of the guilty and sends a warning that they might be out to screw you. Introverts don't trust very easily.

You Listen

This may sound like a strange one because you would think everybody listens, but your listening is different. You are present with the person who's talking. Observing and listening intensely to every word. They feel a genuine interest and concern.

You Enjoy Being By Yourself

One of the biggest strengths in life is being able to spend time by yourself and introverts absolutely need this time alone.

While others constantly look for someone else to spend time with, you truly understand what you’re about, what you like and dislike, and more, because you enjoy being alone. Reading a book or going to the movies alone is fun even if it's not fun for anyone else.

You Analyze

However, your over-analysis can often be seen as a weakness. While evaluating a situation can be helpful, the moment you start to analyze too much is when it becomes dangerous.

Understanding deeper meanings is fine as long as there is one, otherwise, you're wasting your own time.

Everybody Accuses You of Flirting

Sometimes, you will be told that you 'flirt with everyone' which is strange considering their notion of your shyness. In truth, you just listen and know how to talk to people considerately whereas others haven't always got this skill.

Think First, Argue Second

Rather than shouting the first thing that pops into your head, you carefully consider what is happening to try and understand it fully.

If possible, you will defuse the situation by using your listening skills. Either way, you will talk with sense rather than blurting out meaningless insults.

You Don’t Get Bored

Introverts are known for having conversations with that still Voice in their head and being able to entertain themselves which is why they don’t get bored and why they enjoy spending so much time alone.

Whether you are by yourself or with others, there is no way you could ever be bored because you’re thinking or planning something. On the other hand, extroverts are always looking outwards for motivation.

Smiling Faces Tell Lies

I think the singing group, The O'Jays said it best, "They laugh in your face all the time they're trying to take your place–the Backstabbers." Those are the people you never let into your small circle of inner friends.

You Take Action

While others like to be cautious and shy away from action, you are ready to go because you have done all the planning necessary.

Building a Mysterious

Finally, people will note that you have a 'mysterious air' even though you know what goes on behind closed doors. The fact that you can control body language and facial expressions makes you hard to read, and others will often judge your reading of a situation to be mysterious.

Summary

Well, we covered a lot here. Now you should know whether you are an introvert or not. Just remember that DEEP down, we're all the same, anyway. The same color blood flows through our veins no matter who we are.

And in the end, we all bear the personality traits of both introverts and extroverts–depending on the situation. One trait is more dominant than the other one–but both are in us all. So–

Whoever you are
